Making Soap and Disciples…A Great Combination!

Making Soap and Disciples…A Great Combination!

*Burt and *Belinda have been working full-time in Kingdom work for the past twelve months.  They are leaders in the work Discipleshipon the island.  They have baptized numerous people, and they are currently leading two house churches.  They disciple 10 people regularly and have participated in most of our SWARMS.  We have loved seeing God change their hearts to be busy in broken and lost communities.  They are faithful to share the Gospel to their family, neighbors and in communities where many people will not go because of the crime and drugs.

Nature's CreationThey have found creative ways to maintain their livelihood, while at the same time dedicating much time in the Kingdom work on the island.  One of the creative businesses they run from their home is “Nature’s Creation”.  They make natural, orgainc soap in their living room.  *Belinda grows and uses plants, flowers and herbs from her garden (and sometimes ours) and she and her husband use all natural ingredients to make this incredible soap.

*Belinda is also an amazing cook and we regularly order food from her when we have fellowships, CORE meetings and leadership trainings.

They have been a blessing to us in ministry!  Will you pray for them?

Baptism

  • Pray for setbacks as they work in many broken communities and have experienced personal hurts while helping people whom they are ministering.
  • Pray for their livelihood.  Pray that God would continue to sustain them and provide for them so that they can continue in the Four Fields work on the island.
  • Pray that they would continue to trust in Him and walk through each door He opens, trusting that God will be honored and glorified in all that they do.
  • Pray that they would remain faithful, fruitful & obedient!

You prayed and God answered in Harare

You prayed and God answered in Harare

Thanks so much for praying for the Urban Conference in Harare.  Urban Specialist, Kurt Holiday, showed us how to learn more about our city, the people in our city, and how we can be pro-active in bringing God’s “shalom” to our cities.

The discussion groups were lively as people began to generate practical ideas their churches could use to engage in Kingdom activities in Harare.

Praying the Model Prayer for Pretoria

Praying the Model Prayer for Pretoria

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray in the Model Prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13, He began with telling them to pray: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” We have a new missionary team going into the city of Pretoria where they will begin to enter new fields with the Gospel. Will you join them in praying this prayer? “Lord – may Your kingdom come, and Your will be done in Pretoria as it is in heaven. Father God, guide this team into the segments of the city where you want them to begin sharing the Gospel. Fulfill this verse in the city of Pretoria, and do it for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.” Read the rest of this entry

Deceptive Beauty

Deceptive Beauty

This is the most beautiful time of year in Harare, Zimbabwe when all the Jacaranda trees are in full bloom.  But underneath the trees there is an ugliness, a dirtiness, a sinfulness that cannot be missed.  Like most large cities it has its share of “dens of iniquity”.  The economic and political turmoil have also fueled the wickedness that can be found here.  But we believe God has the power to change the city of Harare and make it beautiful inside and out. We are praying that God will raise up faithful Christian men and women to pray for Harare and to actively share the gospel with its people.  We are praying that the kingdom of God will advance and break down the strongholds of the enemy all over Harare.   Pray with us for the Urban Conference, 6-8 October as we discuss with Christians from different churches how to reclaim the city of Harare for Christ.

Entering New Fields

Entering New Fields

Please be in prayer for the people living in the city of Pretoria! There is a new missionary team preparing itself to enter and live in this large city. Their one task is to go into every segment of the city in search of “God-prepared people’. A “God-prepared person” is someone whom the Holy Spirit has prepared ahead of time to respond immediately, or very soon, to the gospel/or to the task of spreading the gospel. When they find these individuals, they will then train them on how to be an obedient disciple of Jesus Christ. This team’s one purpose is to train disciples who make disciples, so that this city is reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be poured out upon this city, revealing these God-prepared people, and for the Lord to guide this team in knowing where to begin this work.

Pray for the City of Pretoria, South Africa

Pray for the City of Pretoria, South Africa

Our family is excited about our upcoming move to Pretoria! Our role and job title in Pretoria will be “Urban Catalyst,” targeting unreached segments of Pretoria. Pretoria is the nation’s administrative capital, and carries with it immense weight of national and global influence. It is seen as the center of impact for South Africa because of its political presence as it hosts the President and his capital. It is home to a myriad of people groups and areas still without a viable gospel presence. We couldn’t be more excited to be given the opportunity to invest our lives in this new location! God has done amazing things where we currently are living on our island through the tools we’ve learned from T4T, and now we will be doing this very thing in South Africa. Of course, there are many logistics that need to be worked out now, so we would ask that you PLEASE pray for us and our move. The most urgent prayer request is for our SA visas. Recently there has been some difficulty with some of our folks obtaining visas into SA. We know that God is the One who leads us in victory, so we believe that He will go before us on this.

One of the greatest barriers to the rapid spread of the gospel in urban areas of Zimbabwe is the stigma attached to house churches.   Traditional churches have difficulty accepting the idea that there can be a “church” without a building and a seminary trained pastor.  This tradition has basically brought the urban church growth to a standstill and they are even losing numbers.  There are not enough buildings to keep up with the population explosion.   With the economic crisis it is obvious that church buildings are not the way to move the kingdom of God forward. Nor can the seminary train enough pastors to meet the need for the hundreds of churches needed to reach our population.

Pray that our Baptist Convention, our pastors, our church leaders, and our church members will come to the realization that the “church” is the body of believers which meet together and is not dependent on having a building.  Pray for an Acts vision of planting churches where the people met together in homes and were led by a man in the group which God raised up to lead them.  Pray that we will be able to find a way to equip these men “on the job” so they can continue with their day jobs and still be able to shepherd the flock entrusted to them by God.  “And what you (Timothy)  have heard from me (Paul) in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”  (2 Timothy 2:2, ESV)

Church from the 17th Floor

Church from the 17th Floor

The Oxford Economic’s Global Cities 2030 study reports that the population of Johannesburg (Joburg), South Africa will increase 2.2 million by the year 2030. That averages out to 3,000 people a week moving into the city! It is essential that evangelicals launch new churches throughout Joburg to meet the spiritual needs of the growing population.

This year, three new church plants are beginning (and four others are in the planning stages). One of those church plants, Godfirst Braamfontein, is in downtown Joburg and began meeting in January from the 17th floor of a local hotel. Braamfontein is an area of downtown Joburg that is feeling the effects of gentrification (renovation & improvement). It is the ‘HIP’ place to be! It is a community whose population is as diverse as the shops, businesses, and residences are. Here you will find luxury accomodations, university student housing, and high rise apartments that need some repair work. You will find coffee shops, markets, street art, hotels, hair salons, fast food, grocers, and shops for the wealthy as well as the poor. Young millenials are everywhere, in their hip attire, but so are the homeless and broken. No matter where they are from, many need to hear the truth of the Gospel!

Please pray that this church will continually proclaim God’s love, mercy, and salvation to the peoples of these areas. Pray for the lead pastor, elders, and lay leaders as they preach, plan outreaches, and strive to meet the needs of the people both physically and spiritually. Pray also for leaders of small group Bible studies.

Walk Forth

Walk Forth

CPM Training Prayer Prompt #10

10. – Oh Sovereign and Holy Lord, cleanse us from anything that is keeping us from abiding in You. We want to walk forth in the fear of the Lord. Pray 2 Corinthians 7:1 “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God that this spirit may be found in you.”

"Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God that this spirit may be found in you." 2 Corinthians 7:1

“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God that this spirit may be found in you.” 2 Corinthians 7:1

9. – Heavenly Father, we cry out for Your salvation to be boldly proclaimed! We pray that You will use this training to save many! We pray for an abundant and reckless God-glorifying sharing of the Gospel across the Ocean2Ocean Cluster.

8. – Lord, let the hearts of the Ocean2Ocean personnel be fully Yours, honest and humble. Pray 1 Kings 8:58,60 “that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, which He commanded our fathers… so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God; there is no one else.”

7. –  Oh God, we pray that each of us would so abide in Christ and His Word, that we are totally dependent on Him in faith to carry out our ministry.

6. –  Sovereign Lord, we pray that each of us would live in the anticipation of You raising up among our people groups persons who will multiply the gospel thirty, sixty, and even one hundred times.

5. -Heavenly Father, we pray that application of the material will be a priority for all of us as we seek to apply it and agree with your process for church planting.  Help us as life and daily schedules will have to be adjusted and priorities will have to change. Enable national partners to contextualize the material so that it will be applied effectively and widely.

4. –  Almighty God, we pray that You would open our eyes and hearts to prepare us to implement ways of reaching those to whom you called us to witness and disciple.

3. Lord, we pray that each of us will live in anticipation of an Acts type movement within our cluster.  A unified, spirit empowered and emboldened walk and ministry, which ultimately brings glory to You and the salvation of many souls.

2. Father, prepare our heart and mind for the material we will be learning.  We desire to be spiritually prepared so that we will be full of faith and of the Spirit.  Pray that we will be sponges ready to absorb ALL that God has for us.

1. Heavenly Father, we pray that our hearts will mirror your heart for the lost.  We pray that we will truly be broken for the lost as we seek ways to reach out to them.

Blankets for Winter!

Blankets for Winter!

It is winter time in South Africa.  Thousands  of refugees and asylum seekers from tropical countries are experiencing cold weather for the first time.   They get here and have no jobs, do not know the language, have no place to live, and wonder what they are going to do to provide for their families.

On top of the worries for the necessities such as food, shelter, and clothes, a new one rises to the forefront – warmth.   In Cape Town we get winter winds, rains, and storms from the Antarctic. Houses and buildings here are not built with heating and air conditioning systems. Most people buy blankets and plug-in heaters or oil heaters. Refugees do not have the money to do that.

Through individual partners, local and international, and through the Baptist Global Response (BGR), we have been able to provide 134 double size blankets to over 200 refugees and asylum seekers. Besides blankets, they also hear about  the love of Jesus.

If you have given to BGR, then you can smile and know that many families will sleep with warm blankets tonight.
