Just So-So

Just So-So

We needed a new craft for the youth group that met at Happiness’ house twice a week.  Maybe I can teach them to sew, I thought!  I was SO surprised when we started the lesson – – most all the Pedi youth (girls AND boys!) already knew how to sew…and some of them were quite good at some very difficult stitches!   Each youth pushed the needles in and out, in and out of the washcloths.  They were sewing the washcloths into pockets that would hold a bar of soap.  As each Pedi student completed their sewing task, they were given a new bar of soap to tuck inside their washcloth pocket. SosoThe sun was setting and it seemed the dust was rising when they finished sewing. The 67 youth and children sat in their chairs and listened intently as I reviewed the stories we were learning on the storying cloth.  Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham…. The seeds of truth told through the pictures on this “Bible cloth” were planted again into their hearts.   Pray that the evil one will not come and snatch away the seeds sown in their hearts. (Matthew 13:19).  Pray that these Word-seeds will be sown into fertile heart-soil.  Pray for the youth to hear and understand the Word and to produce a crop a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown (Matthew 13:23) God calls us each to ministry that is not just “so-so.”  God calls us to more than just teaching youth a practical skill like sewing.  God calls us to sow seeds of truth into the lives of everyone around us so that they will, in turn, sow into the lives of all those around them!  God can do SO-SO much more than we can ever hope or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20). Ask Him to do it among the Pedi youth!

Thank you for praying for volunteer team

Thank you for praying for volunteer team

Thank you for praying for the team from New Song Baptist Church.  The team was comprised of six Korean/Americans, one Virginian and one South African pastor.  50-75 persons received training on witnessing and how to share their personal testimony.  There were many witnessing opportunities with church leaders and church members excited to participate. There were decisions for Christ and a revived spirit in the Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Sealane Village.  One of the church leaders remarked “that Satan had take their joy of evangelism and that they needed to take it back.”  The local pastor was absolutely thrilled by the results and looks forward to the ongoing partnership.  There are hundreds if not thousands of villages throughout Sekhukhuneland (South Africa).  Now there is a vision to plant churches in Ga Selepi, Ga Phasa, Marchabella, and Ga Mahopa and leaders have been identified and designated for three of those 4 villages.  Please continue to pray for revival to spread among the Sekhukhune BaPedi of Northern South Africa.

First Engagement

First Engagement

The first team of six persons from New Song Church, Carrollton, Texas is on the ground (June 25-July 4) in Sekhukhuneland led by the pastor.  They are also accompanied by the pastor of the Bermuda Baptist Church in Virginia who is the stateside coordinator for the work.  This is the first engagement step for New Song.  Please pray for strategic relationships to be forged between the team, Rock of Ages Baptist Church and the community of Sealane, Limpopo Province.  Pray that the trip will be fruitful for the Kingdom so that a strong foundation is laid for future engagement.

Pray Holy Spirit to move hearts of Pedi believers

Pray Holy Spirit to move hearts of Pedi believers

Most Pedi pastors are bi-vocational.  Pastor “Tim” is the principal of a local high school in the village of Sealane where he pastors Rock Of Ages Baptist Church.  Pray for Pastor “Tim” and the local congregation as they prepare to host a ministry team from a church in Carrolton, Texas in late July.  Pray for his family.  Pray for his leadership in the community and church.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to move the hearts of many Pedi believers to take responsibility for the Great Commission.

Engaging Church among the Pedi people

Engaging Church among the Pedi people

The New Song Church, a Korean language church (located in Texas)  has committed to becoming an engaging church among the Sekhukhune Pedi of South Africa.  In April, they received specialized training from the pastor of the Bermuda Baptist Church (Virginia) who is currently serving as stateside coordinator for Pedi work.  Please pray for this church as the congregation prepares to send their first team (late June) to the Limpopo Province of South Africa near the town of Lebowakgomo to train Pedi church leaders.  Please pray for strong relationships to be made that will lead to the development of multiplying disciples and multiplying churches in and beyond Sekhukhuneland.

Extending Ministry Areas

Extending Ministry Areas

The Baptist work among the Pedi of the Sekhukhune area in the Limpopo Province ,has focused mainly in the areas around Diphagane.  Extending the ministry area is needed to reach more Pedi people.  In 2016, pray several volunteer teams will commit to ministering among the Pedi.  Pray people of peace will be found in villages beyond Diphagane.

Pray for Pastor C

Pray for Pastor C

Pastor C is a Baptist Pedi pastor in the Limpopo Province who works very hard to see that the Pedi hear about Jesus and grow spiritually.  He could use help but committed Christian men sharing their faith are not plentiful.  Unfortunately, Pastor C feels he must evangelize alone since there are few people he can trust.  Pray for Pastor C to seek the Lord’s help in achieving his spiritual task as well as the need to trust others.  Pray for bold and courageous Christian Pedi men to share the gospel.

Continued sharing prayer requests for the Pedi

Continued sharing prayer requests for the Pedi

In the past several months, prayer requests emphasizing the ministries of evangelizing the Pedi people have been shared by the team’s prayer advocate.  In January, she and her husband wil return to the states to begin a new life and ministry.  Even though they are returning to the states, the prayer advocate will continue sharing strategic prayer requests for the Pedi people of the Sekhukhune area of the Limpopo Province.  Please commit to praying for the Pedi people to know who is Jesus.  Pray they will also see the need to share the gospel message with neighbors and family members.  Pray for the prayer advocate as she continues prayer advocacy ministry among the Pedi.

Pray for continued volunteer teams

Pray for continued volunteer teams

The Pedi people of the Limpopo Province in South Africa are an unreached people group.  Even though there is not an IMB missionary living in the Limpopo Province, there is work among the Pedi.  In August, a volunteer team from Virginia ministered with the Cornerstone Baptist Church and a church plant.  In September, led by the cluster associate strategy leader, a Pastor Summit was conducted to cast vision for reaching lost Pedi and making multiplying disciples.  Pray volunteer teams will continue ministering among the Pedi.  Pray for the cluster association strategy leader as he develops a strategy for reaching the Pedi of the Sekhukhune area of the Limpopo Province in South Africa.

Pastors’ Summit

Pastors’ Summit

Bapedi9The Sekhukune Bapedi are an unreached people group living in Limpopo Province, South Africa.  They are a sister tribe to the Tswana of South Africa.  For several years, IMB missionaries along with partners from the U.S. have been working to strengthen existing Baptist work in the area.  Recently, believers in a remote village were trained to share their faith with others.  The Baptist pastor in this village was encouraged by the new enthusiasm of his church members.

PLEASE PRAY for a Pastors’ Summit being held in Diphagane (dee-pa-ha-nee) on Saturday, Sept. 12th!  First, ask that the pastors in the area will make every effort to attend the Summit.  Second, pray that the presenters will effectively communicate the heart of the Father for the lost among the Sekhukune Bapedi.  Finally, ask that these pastors will carry the vision of “making disciples who make disciples” back to their people & their churches.
