What you have heard me say in front of many people, you must teach to faithful men. Then they will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2
The small room is built out of zinc siding and is used as a daily afterschool feeding location for over 200 children. On Monday afternoons, however, the pots are pushed to the side and the room is converted into a teaching hall. For over five years, two ladies have been teaching Bible stories there to mostly Damara speaking children. Each week, the children crowd inside the room, often times sitting way too close to one another in miserably hot temperatures. On many occasions the ladies questioned the validity of their efforts because so often it seemed that no one ever truly listened. But God….He said to remain faithful to what they have been called by Him to do, and so they did. Recently, God made it clear that all the lessons should be ones that would teach these children how to share Jesus in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods, although most of the children did not know Jesus as their own personal Saviour yet. The first lesson was complete chaos and extremely discouraging! One of the ladies suggested, however, that they continue teaching the exact same lesson every week until the kids begin to understand it. They also asked people to be praying at that same time every Monday afternoon that God’s heart for his children would not only be understood but also taken out into their community. As part of the training, the children report back each week about who they told last week’s lesson to and the results. Many are beginning to grasp God’s heart for His people. Last week, five children gave their lives to Jesus during the lesson! It is extremely exciting to hear these children practice the stories of Jesus and prepare to “go and make disciples”. Please join us in begging God to use these children to reach the nation of Namibia for Jesus.
The Lord said, “Get up! Walk throughout the length and breadth of the land, because I’m going to give it to you.” Genesis 13:17
Wow! What an exciting verse! God has made a plan for all Namibian people and He has chosen to involve us in reaching them! Namibia is a large nation that covers 318,261 square miles in southern Africa but has a sparse population due to its harsh living conditions. For all the people of Namibia to have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus, believers need to be willing to purposely go out and share Jesus “throughout the length and breadth of the land”. Please pray that Namibian believers will hear God’s call, become excited by what God wants to do in this nation, and be a part of God’s Holy Spirit moving throughout this land.
Jesus said to his followers, “There are many people to harvest but only a few workers to help harvest them. Pray to the Lord, who owns the harvest, that he will send more workers to gather his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38
The young cashier quietly and efficiently rang up the cookie sheets that I was purchasing as I chatted to my friend about how I was going to throw away my old rusted ones when I got home. As I handed him the money, I spotted his name tag and commented that my firstborn’s name is also Jeremiah. I asked if he knew what his name means and told him that it means “God hurled”. I went on to explain that Jeremiah in the Bible was a prophet who God hurled or sent into the world to point the people back to God. I then added, “Jeremiah, you have been placed on this earth by God for a purpose. Do you love Jesus?” His eyes began to fill with tears.
As more and more groups are being trained in Windhoek, Namibia to share Jesus “as they go and make disciples”, people are reporting that stories like Jeremiah’s are common. Speaking about Jesus pours into the empty places of Namibians’ hearts. It may seem to be a strange thing to say, but Namibians appear to be waiting for us believers to tell them about Jesus! We are feeling an urgency to train “workers” for the fields in Namibia that are “ripe for harvest”. Every day many die in Namibia without ever knowing that their hearts were longing to discover Jesus’ great love for them and His salvation. Please beg God, The Lord of the Harvest, to raise up workers quickly! The Namibian fields are ripe for harvest today!
“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” Psalms 55:17
In a few months a number of us that will gather for several days. We will be studying God’s Word, worshiping Him and spending time in prayer, individually and together. We are going to specifically be praying for the Sub-Saharan African Peoples. Our theme is “Return to Me”. Will you join me in praying for this Prayer Forum as we desire to draw near to the Father, interceding on behalf of the lost, that their hearts would be open to the Gospel, that their ears would be open to the Truth?
- Pray for the Lord to blow the winds of His Spirit in our churches/ministries, bringing new life and vitality to believers and ministries.
- Ask the Father to give our churches a hunger to encounter Him in a new and fresh way through prayer.
- Pray that the Lord will give us an urgent heart to prioritize prayer for revival in our lives.
Each Sunday afternoon in the Parliment Gardens of the capital city of Namibia, people gather there for their usual picnics, yoga classes, casual strolls, and a good time with friends.
There is a new group that has begun to meet there on a regular basis which sits on a patch of grass to learn how to share Jesus more effectively, to pray for each other, and to encourage one another to continue telling others about Jesus. They are all in their late teens and early twenties, filled with excitement and enthusiasm as they are understanding Jesus’ call on their lives to go and make disciples for Him. They often travel back to their hometowns to share Jesus with their families and their friends, returning to the gardens on Sunday to report all that God has done through them. Max has led his two younger sisters to the Lord but is asking that we pray with him for God to send someone in their town to disciple these new baby believers. Rava asks that we stand with him before Jesus asking that he will know how to handle the opposition he is facing as he is sharing Jesus to his university teachers and classmates. Suama has been asked to start a Bible study by parents of her students she has led to Jesus. She needs God’s protection to go into these areas that are often times unsafe.
Hunga has started a youth outreach to the Himbas in his home town that is far from the capital. Twenty children gave their hearts to Jesus at the first meeting! He occasionally gets to come back to the park to share all that God is doing and to receive more training. He asks that we pray for God to supply all that he needs to be doing this youth outreach alone.
Please join us in praying for these mighty warriors of Jesus and praise God with us for all He is doing through these young adults who are true followers of Jesus.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Isaiah 55:10-12
“‘If you remember my laws and commands and obey them, then I will give you rains at the right season; the land will produce crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.
Namibia is experiencing its worst drought in thirty years. As the grass is depleted and the boreholes are drying up, cattle, sheep, and wildlife are dying. The clouds often begin building up in the sky only to dissipate before any rain has fallen on this extremely dry land. This physical crisis seems to be a daily reminder of the spiritual drought which is also evident in this country. The believers here are battle-weary and it has become a rarity to find those believers who are remaining actively faithful to all that God has called them to. Raising up godly leadership is almost insurmountable as Satan discourages and steals away any promising leaders. Please beg God to pour out His Spirit and move among His children in a refreshing and revitalizing manner that will cause these Namibian believers to mature and reproduce followers of Jesus. We also ask that you join us in pleading with God to “give us rain at the right season so that the land will produce crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit.”
The Father’s Heart
Christ loves the church so much and gave Himself up for her. As we obey His command to go and make disciples, we want churches to be planted all across the countries of the Ocean2Ocean Cluster, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean. Several of our personnel from different countries will be attending a church planting training to learn effective ways to multiple disciples and churches. In addition, several of our personnel will be going to teach at this same training. “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.” Isaiah 64:4 Pray that as we come together for training God will speak through the trainers, that all those learning will hear from the Father and know His Heart, that each of us will be challenged daily be obedient disciples.
January 2016…New school uniforms, new school supplies, new teachers…the new school year has begun in Namibia! As Namibian children across the country head back to school, we ask that you join us in praying that Jesus would open their hearts and minds to His great love for them. Also, would you please pray that Jesus would show Himself in new ways to them so that they might come to know Him as their Lord and Saviour? Finally, please ask Jesus to protect these children from Satan’s plans to destroy them in any and in every way that he can.
There are many countries today that are experiencing war of some kind and the devestation it causes to its people and its economy. Namibia, however, does not fight in a military conflict but rather faces the tremendous battle of being a country with over 15% of its population fighting HIV/AIDS infections.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Due to the impact of HIV/AIDS on Namibia, over 54% of its population is under the age of 25 with many children being orphaned by the disease. Please pray for God to reveal His strategy for reaching these young Namibians with the good news that God has made a way for them through His son, Jesus, to experience an abundant life. Also, please ask God to raise up many godly young people (an army) who will understand the urgency of sharing Jesus with their families and friends.
“Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.” Psalm 96:2
Proclaim His Salvation Day to Day!
Pray with us that the Lord’s name is exalted across the countries of the Ocean2Ocean cluster, that believers in these countries and islands will rise up and proclaim the good news of His salvation every day.
