When Jesus taught His disciples to pray in the Model Prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13, He began with telling them to pray: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” We have a new missionary team going into the city of Pretoria where they will begin to enter new fields with the Gospel. Will you join them in praying this prayer? “Lord – may Your kingdom come, and Your will be done in Pretoria as it is in heaven. Father God, guide this team into the segments of the city where you want them to begin sharing the Gospel. Fulfill this verse in the city of Pretoria, and do it for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.” Read the rest of this entry
Please be in prayer for the people living in the city of Pretoria! There is a new missionary team preparing itself to enter and live in this large city. Their one task is to go into every segment of the city in search of “God-prepared people’. A “God-prepared person” is someone whom the Holy Spirit has prepared ahead of time to respond immediately, or very soon, to the gospel/or to the task of spreading the gospel. When they find these individuals, they will then train them on how to be an obedient disciple of Jesus Christ. This team’s one purpose is to train disciples who make disciples, so that this city is reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be poured out upon this city, revealing these God-prepared people, and for the Lord to guide this team in knowing where to begin this work.
The Oxford Economic’s Global Cities 2030 study reports that the population of Johannesburg (Joburg), South Africa will increase 2.2 million by the year 2030. That averages out to 3,000 people a week moving into the city! It is essential that evangelicals launch new churches throughout Joburg to meet the spiritual needs of the growing population.
This year, three new church plants are beginning (and four others are in the planning stages). One of those church plants, Godfirst Braamfontein, is in downtown Joburg and began meeting in January from the 17th floor of a local hotel. Braamfontein is an area of downtown Joburg that is feeling the effects of gentrification (renovation & improvement). It is the ‘HIP’ place to be! It is a community whose population is as diverse as the shops, businesses, and residences are. Here you will find luxury accomodations, university student housing, and high rise apartments that need some repair work. You will find coffee shops, markets, street art, hotels, hair salons, fast food, grocers, and shops for the wealthy as well as the poor. Young millenials are everywhere, in their hip attire, but so are the homeless and broken. No matter where they are from, many need to hear the truth of the Gospel!
Please pray that this church will continually proclaim God’s love, mercy, and salvation to the peoples of these areas. Pray for the lead pastor, elders, and lay leaders as they preach, plan outreaches, and strive to meet the needs of the people both physically and spiritually. Pray also for leaders of small group Bible studies.
For the sixth year in a row, a team of high school and college students, plus their leaders, will return to Johannesburg in order to work in various areas across the city. They will lead Holiday Bible Clubs, tutor, and share the Good News with many Joburgers. Please pray for the team as they prepare for teaching and speaking, and as they prepare spiritually. Pray He is glorified through them and in them.
Bellevue Baptist Church, Johannesburg, South Africa, has begun a new ministry called Women of Worth. Within that ministry, women are sewing Gospel Dolls that believers can use to share the Gospel and give to small children that can’t afford an ethnic baby doll. Please pray that churches in South Africa and the USA would work together towards the vision of the Gospel Doll to be used as a “tool” for evangelizing and making disciples, creating jobs for destitute women and blessing a child for the first time with a doll of her color.
Many students from South Africa and other African countries study at the Baptist Theological College in Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa. Students come to the college for classes, but a large number are distance learners, that is, they study at home and post or email papers and tests in to the college. It is our prayer that as students study and become more familiar and knowledgeable of the God and His word that these BTC students also continue to grow in their love for God.
With a population of over 14 million people, Gauteng is the most populated province in South Africa. Therefore, we are over-the-moon excited to be adding workers to our team! Please pray for Jay and Lori as they make final preparations for moving, and that everything comes together smoothly as they wait patiently for God’s perfect timing. Pray for peace of mind as they make decisions regarding to their children’s schooling. Pray for their extended family as they say ‘goodbye’ and travel safety.
‘FUGE-leaders volunteer team has arrived! Monday, they begin a full week of ministry. In Soweto, they will be leading devotions, sharing testimonies, singing, Bible stories and activities with kids–lots of kids, listening to the workers, doing garden work and accompanying the health care, orphan & education workers as they do their jobs.
In downtown Joburg (Johannesburg), they will be prayer walking, sharing the gospel in an area a local pastor hopes to begin a Francophone church, and teaching “American” sports at one high school.
Both teams will be visiting a local orphanage connected to a Baptist church downtown. You can find out more about this orphanage at http://www.onelifematters.org/projects click on One Baby South Africa.
Please pray that God would be in charge of the whole trip. Pray for interactions in which the Gospel gets to be shared. Pray the ‘FUGE team would spread the fragrance of Christ each place to go. Pray they will be an encouragement for the Boitshoko workers. Pray for safety and working the kinks out of the inevitable changes that will take place
The morgue reported that 200+ babies are abandoned in Joburg (Johannesburg) every month! Many are abandoned on the street or in a river. In order to give mothers a better option, for many years, one Baptist church/orphanage downtown has had a door in their wall where mothers can leave their babies with caretakers. Now, Pastor C and Joburg team member, Kurt, are hoping to install a door and orphanage home in Soweto. Pray for their meetings with two pastors in Soweto. Pray that through these meeting they can finalize a church home for the door so that construction may begin. Pray for God’s plans are clear.
Youth camp will be taking place the last week in December. This is a wonderful time for the youth to reconnect with their friends from Southern Africa and strengthen their relationship with the Lord. Please pray for safe travels for the youth and the team coming to lead them. Pray that they will enjoy their time with friends. Pray that the Lord will draw each of them closer to Him.
